eLearning Days

e-LEARNING DAY INFORMATION

In 2011, the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) began slowly opening the door for districts to use technology and 1:1 initiatives for teaching and learning outside the traditional classroom. In 2017-2018, that has evolved into e-Learning Days. (To read more about IDOE e-Learning Days evolution, go to eLearning Day Program.)

As STOH continues to make technology an active part of teaching and learning in our schools, and after receiving IDOE affirmation that we meet the criteria and approval to participate in the e-Learning Days Program, we are now planning our district's implementation for the 2018-2019 school year.

Our administrators and teachers are and will be working together during the next few months to ensure we are prepared to instruct digitally, our students are ready to learn digitally and our parents understand and are well-informed about elearning.

One of the greatest benefits of elearning days is to avoid having to make up days missed for inclement weather by tacking additional days onto the end of the school year. Instead, if school is cancelled, students will continue their learning for that day at home and on line. (Alternative arrangements will be made for students that do not have Internet access at home.)

eLearning days can also be planned -- Teachers report to their schools for professional development and students are provided with a virtual elearning day. Either format enables our students the opportunity to engage educationally outside of the traditional school day in a format increasingly present in today's education world.

The district has complied a list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) to address questions and/or concerns parents and students might have.
